Hey everybody, here are my reactions to Chapter 2 of our text, and today's exciting lesson on using Google.

The internet, in terms of historical relativity, is going through its equivalent of the renaissance. It's hard to believe that just a little over 15 years ago, the internet as we know it was not much more than a loosely connected series of local BBS's. I remember the days of dialing up to the local BBS in Lakeland, FL on my 9600 baud modem, happily downloading the latest in "shareware" software for use on my 286. Now, of course, the internet is a magnitude of order larger than it used to be (dwarfing it's great grand-daddy, old ARPANET), and accessability continues to improve. Cable/DSL internet has become the standard, and people today can enjoy things, like streaming video/audio, that simply weren't around 5 years ago. The trend, of course, shows no signs of abatement. It's kind of exciting, thinking of where we'll be in 20 years, when my kids are getting ready to go to high school. Heck, they'll probably be jacking youtube straight into their brains...while I'm sitting in my den, crying over my old collection of "ancient" DVD's.

That's what I got out of the chapter, anyway.

In terms of new things I've learned....uhmm...well.....hey, I didn't know about Google Scholar! Of course, most of its links seem to come from ERIC, which I'm familiar with. Hey, it's new though!

Let's see...personal stuff....

Live Free or Die Hard was pretty awesome. If you guys haven't seen it, you should. I was kind of skeptical about it being able to touch the sheer awesomeness of the original Die Hard, but I shouldn't have doubted John McClane. July, in general, is the month of summer movies...Transformers comes out tonight, and I'll be there for that, too. Yeah, my fiancee already made fun of me for being an adolescent nerd-boy over dragging her to it.

Movies are what makes the summer...if not for them we would be stuck actually doing school work.

I agree, it's amazing how much computers and the internet have developed over the years. Back when I was in high school the internet was green text and unwelcoming to say the least. We actually played pong on the old apple comuters when we had the time. Oh yeah, my girlfriend lovingly calls me "dork boy". I know the feeling.
